Spring Emerges
This piece is a celebration of early spring, inspired by Mortimer Forest near Ludlow in Shropshire where Shelly spends lots of time running and walking. The forest is home to a rare sub-species of long-haired fallow deer which can often be seen there.
Early spring brings with it the arrival of much-loved snowdrops and also more unusual finds in the forest like the vibrantly red, Scarlet Elf cup fungi. The gentle greens of lichen are echoed through the forest floor and trees. A great spotted woodpecker zooms through the image.
You can almost smell the rich earthy scents of a woodland floor as you step through dried bracken and weave between trees still dormant, life waiting to spring into action.
