Shelly Perkins Wildlife Art

About

Hi, I'm wildlife and travel artist Shelly perkins. My working is inspired by the wonderful wild places that I have visited on my travels as well as the beautiful landscapes of rural Britain, in partcular the Worcestershire/Herefordshire/Shropshire region where I live and work.

My online store is the easiest place for you to order a piece of my art and have it safely delivered straight to your door. My work is sold as limited edition prints each one is printed, signed and numbered by me, carefully rolled into recycled packaging and delivered straight to your door.

All work is sent unframed and unmounted ready for your own carefully selected frame to suit your home. If you are interested in ordering a framed piece, collection only, please get in touch.

Prints are normally delivered within one week of ordering and are sent via the royal mail tracked 24 delivery service.

My passion for wildlife, travel and conservation are constant factors in the development and realisation of my work. I aim to emulate both the beauty and fragility of the natural world and present that to my audience in an accessible way through my work.

My work is created in a highly unusual way combining a variety of techniques both traditional and contemporary.  I start working by hand with strong, fluid line drawings, painted textures, water colour washes and found textiles which I then bring together digitally, layering up all of the hand rendered elements with the line drawings on top and the colour, textures and washes at varying levels of opacity underneath.

My finished 'collages' are stored as detailed files sometimes comprising over 150 layers meaning that their only output is as digital prints.  I print all my artwork using the Giclee technique, a form of archival quality digital printing. All of my prints are sold in short run limited editions of just 50.  The prints are not a copy or scan of an original piece but an original output for the work in their own right, making them highly unusual and collectable pieces of art which feature in private and public collections all over the world.

As well as showing my work in galleries I also undertake commercial commissions for illustration work, my list of clients includes BBC Wildlife Magazine, The National Trust, The RSPB, WWF, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, The Vincent Wildlife Trust and The Radio Times. In 2017 I was chosen as the Scott Polar research institute's Antarctic Artist in Residence, my work from the trip is used to educate people about the beauty but extreme fragility of this incredible part of the world. My first book 'Antarctica | A creative Journey' recounts my time in Antarctica and includes many of my field sketches and resulting studio work.

I also run courses and sketching holiday in the UK and abroad for different companies and organisations as well as being a tutor for the online art school Nature Studio. To join me on a trip to France, USA,  Zambia or beyond then do get in touch or sign up to my newsletter for the latest trips, news and offers.

To see examples of my work visit The Artist's Gallery in Ludlow, Shropshire where my work sits alongside my other coopertive members work. Open Daily.
